As part of our new artist collaboration series 8 Months 8 Artists for 8 Ball Community, we are releasing our first collaboration with Emma Kohlmann. We have joined forces with COME TEES by LA-based artist Sonya Sombreuil to launch this collective effort. Each month we will be releasing a new collaboration with a new artist.
Emma Kohlmann (b. 1989 in the Bronx, NY) lives and works in Florence, MA. She received her B.A. from Hampshire College, Amherst, MA. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally including solo exhibitions at Nationale, Portland, OR, and Kit Gallery, Tokyo. Selected group exhibitions include the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, OR, MOCA Tucson, AZ, and New Release, New York, NY. Kohlmann publishes her own artist’s books, zines and made various record covers for music labels.
Due to restrictions caused by Covid-19 we were forced to cancel our annual fundraiser at Mission Chinese Food in Chinatown. To address our ongoing community needs, cultural programming, all-volunteer staff, and our exhibition space, this fundraising effort 8 Months 8 Artists for 8 Ball Community taps vital members of our artist's family to each create a limited-edition shirt designed on their respective ideas of Community.
8-Ball Community will be donating a portion of the sales from each collaboration to a black-led organization of the artists’ choice. This month, Emma Kohlmann has chosen East New York Farms – an organization that mobilizes “youths and adults to address food justice in East New York through local sustainable agriculture and community-led economic development”. This includes virtual cooking demos, workshops, talks, and mutual aid initiatives within NYC and Brooklyn.
